Swipe function question

My two cents, the swipe horizontal to get app functions was one of the last features from a competitor I was still missing here. I feel though that on is current format you are getting more information then you need. I would think that the side swipe is to save time but have the app functions and settings and uninstall all pop-up it detracts from the time saving of using the gesture. Specifically since all of the other non app functions are at the bottom and you have to reach across them to get to the app functions.
